Guide

Ideas

One of the things I've learned is to only do what is worth it. That is why there are tools out there. It would take me months to create a complete site detailing how to make a  homepage. Since there already are some GREAT sites out there which can guide you better than what I ever would, I might as well introduce them to you.

The basic

OK, before you start making a home page, you should know what HTML is all about and how it really works. HTML stands for Hypertext Makeup Language. There are many web sites out there in which their only purpose is to guide you through basic HTML. After searching and looking trough almost a hundred web sites, I've found that  So, you want to make a Web Page! is the best page to start (at least for me). They have samples and explanations, and the site is divided into sections, which makes it easy to read and follow. Plus they have some cool links about making home pages (although some of them are broken since the site hasn't been updated for a while). They also have an off-line version that you can down load (that is you can view them without having to connect to the Internet).

Cool tools

After you know the basic of HTML, you might want to find yourself a HTML editor. It will save you time and won't give you much of a headache creating a web page. There are plenty of free web page editors out there, out of those, the two I like the most are Netscape Composer and Microsoft FrontPage Express. Composer was my favorite until it start messing my blank space tag, so I switch to Frontpage Express, which I have no problem using it so far. Of course you can always buy some other software that would suit your need.

Although these web page editors are great, but they aren't perfect. Sometime you can't create what you really want it to be like, and having to do that by edit HTML tags yourself. I've found that Sizzling HTML Jalfrezi, Microsoft HTML Help, and HTML Reference Library are very helpful. They explains what each tags are and how to use them.

Time for a check up

If you think you're ready to publish your web page, you should be ready to receive some critical from all people, too. To be prepare, you might want to get your page check up from Doctor HTML, a free service where is to analysis your web page.

Publishing

If you meant to make a web page for others can read via Internet, it might be a good idea to upload you files into a server, rather than just keep them in your hard drive. There are plenty of free web server out there, some are better than another. You can let Freebiescenter and Free Center be your guide of a searching of a free web server.
