Tips About Things listed in this page aren't exactly strict rules. Most of them are just from my experience, but some are what I actually learned from books and web sites. Resolution You should set your computer screen resolution at 800 X 600 because that is where most computers have been set to. If you're planing to use other settings, you should put a warning saying, "This page is best view under the resolution of (.........) pixel.
Similarity You entire web sit should at least look somewhat related in a way. Just so people can tell they they are still in YOUR web site. *.html and *.htm are the same thing, although I like *.html better. You should only be using one of them for your entire site. Index You should name your very first page on your site "index.html" (or index.htm). Some servers specifically require you name in index.html (index.htm).
Case sensitive You should only use lower cases for naming your files, since some of the servers are case sensitive, it will give users a hard time typing out your correct URL.
Servers Try avoid servers that has pop-up menu or ads if possible. Most of the time, visitors tend to find them very annoying. Those that support FTP are very nice, although you won't see the use of it much yet, but you will later on when you do some not so basic stuff. You might want to try to get servers that will offer you a short URL. Getting a server that offers a free e-mail account will be the last thing I would worry about because you can always get a free e-mail account from other companies, although they can be beneficial. Some schools and work places also offer free web space for their students and employees, just ask around.
Web browsers After you're done creating your page, please check them under both Netscape and MSIE. MSIE is a very smart browser, maybe too smart that it would correct most errors and display them correctly for us. The result? If people use another web browser, such as Netscape, to view your site, they might get some error messages.
